Social Media : A drive to destruction or destination?

I have heard it both ways, some people call social media a drive to destruction while others call it a drive to destination so it makes one wonder what social media really is. Social media can be a platform for either of these two. How is this possible? The answer is below:

Social media as a drive to destruction 
Social media can drive a person to destruction in the following ways:

• Viewing the wrong videos/pictures: it is almost every where on various social media networks. Many sites even advertise porn videos and display pictures of naked guys and ladies to increase the number of people on their network. This has turned to an addiction for many youths and they can not even do anything relevant without watching the video or looking at the picture in a day. This has destroyed many lives as people who supposed to be good role models to others have been captivated by the wrong things and can not even control themselves anymore. 

• Time wasting: I heard of a story of a woman who was chatting in the bedroom and forgot that she was frying plantain for her hungry husband. The whole plantain burnt and it was only God that saved them that day, the man became angry and this almost destroyed the marriage. Guys, ladies, men, women and children have turned social media to their God, they are always chatting with someone and if it is not chatting then they are checking the latest pictures. This has caused lack of contentment in some youths as they want to also upload pictures with the best wears so they do anything to get these wears. Time is very precious but social media has become more precious to some people. They do irrelevant things and spend valuable time on things without value. 

• Meeting the wrong people: one of the many advantages of social media is that you can meet a lot of people, friends and families including celebrities. However, this is also a disadvantage as some people have died because they met the wrong set of friends through their social media network. Some have been duped because they met the wrong people. There was a man who was duped of a huge amount of money because of social media. Ladies have even fallen in love with guys they have not met through social media which has led to emotional breakdown for them. Meeting the wrong person through social media would only drive one to destruction.

• Getting the wrong advice: anyone can say anything through his or her social media page. Often times, the posts of people could be very wrong. Like someone posting a picture of him or herself taking weed with the caption, "it helps you get over depression". Some ignorant people could get that idea and start engaging in smoking weed. Through social media, some married couples have been given the wrong notion that adultery is not a sin while the singles believe that sex is just a medium for expressing love or deriving pleasure. Social media has given a lot of people the idea that many things that are supposed to be called a sin like homosexuality, pretty marital sex, smoking, violence and the likes are just part of lives. This is going to lead many to destruction. 

Social Media as a drive to Destination 
As bad as social media could be, it could also lead one to the required destination. The question is how? and the answers are below:

• Job opportunities : Through social media, some people have gotten legitimate jobs that is fetching them money. Social media has provided job opportunities like social media managing, content writer and the likes. It has become a medium to have a part time job that would give you extra money that would be helpful to you. 

• Connecting with the right people: Social media is a platform to meet someone you can not reach normally because of time or busy schedule of the person. LinkedIn is an example of a social media network that you can meet with anyone regarding your field. This person can be your mentor and you don't even have to see the person face to face. Through your instagram, twitter, Skype and other social media handles, you can meet celebrities, connect with C.E.O of companies and make friends with them. 

• Starting a business with little or no capital: Social media can help you to start your business, a person that is very good at tutoring can make use of the video call like Skype to tutor students online and get paid. You can also have your own online store through instagram store. You can sell your products and services without paying for a shop or paying little. 

• Advertising Jesus and yourself : through your social media network, you can tell the good news about Jesus. You can also advertise your shop, products and talents you would be able to reach out to more people and this would be very helpful for your business and career. 

Social media has its good and bad, advantages and disadvantages, pros and cons, I believe it all depends on YOU. Nothing and no one is to be blamed for any wrong thing that happens to you. You are the only excuse for your downfall and the major ingredient for your uplifting. Though, other factors might contribute to its. Instead of using social media for the wrong reasons, why don't you just use it for the right and see how you would help others change too. I do not believe there's anything that can not be used for the wrong purpose, it all depends on your own choice.
Make the right choice today and use social media for the right purpose, make it your drive to your desired destination and you would not regret it.
